Reporting to the Head of Revenue, the Financial Controller – Revenue will support the HoR in leading our Global Revenue team as part of GFC, responsible for Revenue accounting (FY24 > $10Bn) and Revenue-linked cost accounting across all Divisions of the Group. Balance sheet control for all Revenue and CoS accounting, also represents a key responsibility of the role. The role will also play a critical part in supporting the maintenance and development of the Group’s underlying revenue processes and reporting infrastructure, working closely with Group Finance technology teams as well as supporting the HoR and the Associate Director – Revenue Transformation in adopting newly designed processes, controls and technology as part of the Polaris Transformation programme.

The FC will be a key point of contact to peer-level colleagues who support the Divisions for all GFC related reporting and processing. The role will have a wide array of corporate level accounting responsibilities supporting the financial management of divisional revenues, including the Group’s fastest growing Division, the US. New markets and jurisdictions will also require the expertise of this function as acquired businesses are integrated to the Group. The FC will support the HoR in leading the month end and year end close processes in addition to the quarterly external audit process.

The successful candidate will also deliver robust and reliable services to all relevant internal stakeholders in which evolve with business needs, for example; where product changes require changes in revenue data files, all necessary input and support to integration the changes into existing processes and controls will be provided.

Strategic vision, proven leadership and experience of excellence in people management, within a complex multinational US GAAP environment, are prerequisites for the role. Excellent communication, analytical, and reporting skills are also essential. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate commercial acumen/experience and must have solid experience of building and maintaining strong and productive working relationships across a broad range of senior and demanding internal/external stakeholders.

What you’ll do

  • Support the HoR in integrating and developing the Revenue Controlling functions for all divisions, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness.
  • Implement a strong Governance & Control environment around Revenue & CoS recognition processes.
  • Build frameworks to plan and prioritize the roll-out of automation projects within defined timelines.
  • Develop and detail a comprehensive understanding of the underlying dynamics of the reported businesses of the relevant divisions.
  • Maintain close connections with key partners both internally and externally to Finance.
  • Collaborate with the wider Group Finance Services leadership team to ensure the cohesion of services delivered to the divisions.
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities as a senior member of the GFC, consistently amongst the wider Finance team and across the organization.
  • Lead and develop team members proactively, working closely with the HoR to maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Ensure adequate team cover and expertise through effective and regular cross-training.
  • Deliver all automated revenue and CoS accounting for divisions.
  • Prepare revenue and revenue-related costs for monthly Management Accounts and reporting packs at divisional and brand levels.
  • Prepare supporting insights on the financial performance of each division and brand.
  • Contribute to the preparation of Annual Statutory Accounts for relevant entities and the Group.
  • Perform regular and insightful financial analysis to share with business leaders.
  • Manage external and internal audit processes, including compliance with Racing and Sporting body product fee agreements.
  • Manage financial processes in accordance with internal controls framework.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and automation within the Finance department.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Group Reconciliations Policy by regularly reviewing General Ledger Reconciliations and Internal Control performance testing.
  • Maintain appropriate documentary evidence in support of key financial (SOX) controls.
  • Contribute to divisional governance, including assessing, managing, and minimizing risk.
  • Provide financial support and advice to the division’s operational business units.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all revenue and cost-focused tax and regulatory returns, as well as compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Lead or contribute to other ad-hoc Finance-related tasks required by divisional CFOs.

What You’ll Need

  • Qualified accountant with approximately 5+ years’ experience in industry or financial services, preferably in a multinational or plc environment.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP reporting requirements.
  • Proven excellence in academic studies to degree level.
  • Assertive and confident, capable of working effectively with senior collaborators.
  • Professional and well-developed influencing skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of essential regulations in a regulated setting (SOX or similar) and background in enhancing/reporting on operational processes.
  • Experience in developing and managing the delivery of financial/non-financial metrics to senior collaborators.
  • Strong financial accounting experience with a solid understanding of current/relevant technical accounting issues.
  • Strong financial systems experience; Oracle Financials knowledge is an advantage.
  • Experience in online betting, gaming, or e-commerce, particularly with an operational dimension, is a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly in Excel.
