About CLO

Flutter consists of two commercial divisions (FanDuel and International) and our central Flutter Functions; COO, Finance & Legal. Here in Flutter Functions we work with colleagues across all our divisions and regions to deliver something we call the Flutter Edge.  It’s our competitive advantage, our ‘secret sauce’ which plays a key part in our ongoing success and powers our brands and divisions, through Product, Tech, Expertise and Scale.

In Flutter Legal we provide global expertise to protect the Flutter brand and drive the “Flutter Edge”. The team are leaders of our sustainability and social license to help our customers and communities thrive.

The Group Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and strategic support on a wide range of employment law matters. The candidate will be expected to have deep technical knowledge of employment legislation, be commercially astute, and have strong experience in contentious and non-contentious matters. They will be responsible for ensuring that Flutter always operates within the law, providing pragmatic and commercial legal advice that protects Flutter’s reputation, brands, customers, and shareholders, facilitating the achievement of the Flutter Group's objectives and strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide pragmatic, commercial, and strategic legal advice on all aspects of employment law including recruitment, contracts, workplace policies, performance management, redundancies, TUPE, inclusivity and terminations.
  • Draft and negotiate employment-related agreements.
  • Lead/ support on employee investigations.
  • Advise on employee immigration matters cross-jurisdictionally.
  • Support the Reward team on all reward related matters.
  • Handle complex employment litigation and tribunal claims, including drafting pleadings, witness statements, and managing settlement negotiations.
  • Support on employment aspects of corporate transactions, including due diligence.
  • Anticipate and respond to new legislation. Update policies, processes, and training materials accordingly.
  • Deliver training and guidance to People teams.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Support on non-employment law related matters, including drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial agreements.
  • Handle external legal resource to ensure a comprehensive and cost-efficient legal support to all areas of the Flutter Group's business.

How You’ll Do It

  • We are looking for a qualified lawyer in England or Ireland with 6 years' PQE. While we are not strictly passionate about PQE, solid experience in employment law, preferably with an international element, is essential.
  • Experience at a highly regarded law firm and in-house experience, either on a client secondment or permanent role, is highly valued.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with people are crucial.
  • Translate legal complexities, discuss legal pros and cons, and challenge senior business collaborators.
  • Understanding Flutter's business and working in a global, fast-paced sector are crucial, with exposure to gambling or sports being helpful.
  • Being a self-starter with the confidence to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment and handle a varied workload is important.
