About Flutter Functions:

The Flutter Functions division is a key component of Flutter Entertainment, responsible for providing essential support and services across the organization. The division encompasses various corporate functions, including finance, legal, human resources, technology, and more, ensuring seamless operations and strategic alignment throughout the company.

Role Overview:

Enterprise IT is seeking a proactive and experienced Platform Engineering Manager to lead a team of three highly skilled engineers responsible for the operational support and delivery of change for our core enterprise platforms: Jira, Confluence, and Slack, including integrations between these systems.

As the trusted service provider for all Flutter brands and divisions globally, this role owns critical enterprise applications that enable cross-brand collaboration and support onboarding of new acquisitions. You will ensure platform integrity, data security, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions worldwide, maintaining the trust placed in Enterprise IT to safeguard collaboration and data across our diverse, multi-location organisation.

The primary focus of this role is to ensure the stability, performance, and availability of the platform environment, manage upgrades and improvements, and collaborate with the Product Owner and delivery teams to implement new features and services that enable Flutter Entertainment's global workforce.

This role will work in close partnership with the Product Owner, who owns the product vision, backlog prioritisation, and stakeholder engagement. The Platform Engineering Manager will be accountable for translating product priorities into technical execution, leading the engineering team to deliver operational excellence, and driving continuous improvement of platform capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing engineering teams in enterprise IT environments, with deep technical expertise in SaaS collaboration platforms, service management frameworks, and agile delivery methodologies. You will excel at balancing operational stability with innovation, possess strong leadership and mentorship skills, and demonstrate the ability to deliver results in a complex, multi-brand organisation.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of three tooling engineers, providing clear direction, mentorship, and career development opportunities

  • Lead onboarding of new acquisitions to core platforms, enabling seamless cross-brand collaboration

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous learning

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and goal-setting sessions

  • Build team capability through skills development, knowledge sharing, and cross-training

  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning in collaboration with the Product Owner

Operational Support & Service Delivery

  • Oversee the operational support of Jira, Confluence, and Slack, ensuring stability, performance, and availability to meet business needs

  • Collaborate with the Service Manager to define and maintain service level agreements (SLAs) for incident response, issue resolution, and system availability

  • Ensure the team provides ongoing monitoring, troubleshooting, and support for platform services

  • Lead incident response and problem management activities, ensuring timely resolution and effective communication

  • Drive root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring issues

Change Delivery & Technical Execution

  • Translate product backlog priorities into technical implementation plans and sprint commitments

  • Manage the delivery of changes, upgrades, and improvements to core platforms, including integrations and new features

  • Collaborate closely with the Product Owner during sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release planning

  • Ensure delivery aligns with acceptance criteria, technical standards, and business expectations

  • Remove technical blockers and guide implementation approaches

Environment Maintenance & Optimisation

  • Ensure regular maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements of the platform environment, staying current with the latest versions and features

  • Lead hands-on implementation of product upgrades and major features, including managing company-wide stakeholder engagement

  • Maintain platform integrity and data security across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with regional data residency and regulatory requirements

  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, conducting performance analysis and implementing optimisation strategies

  • Implement and maintain platform integrations between Jira, Confluence, Slack, and other enterprise systems

  • Ensure platform configurations align with security, compliance, and governance requirements

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Work with the Service Manager and Product Owner to drive continuous improvements for platform services, exploring innovative solutions and staying updated on industry best practices

  • Implement user experience improvement strategies and deliver desired outcomes

  • Champion automation and scripting to streamline repetitive tasks and optimise processes

  • Research emerging products and technologies related to core platforms, providing insights on potential adoption and improvements

  • Surface major work items to roadmap managers to avoid resource constraints across teams

Documentation, Reporting & Governance

  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures

  • Generate regular reports on platform performance, health metrics, and team delivery

  • Ensure documentation supports knowledge transfer, onboarding, and operational continuity

  • Provide input to compliance and audit activities related to platform services

  • Collaborate with the IAM team on access governance and policy enforcement

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with the Product Owner to ensure alignment between technical execution and business value

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across all Flutter brands and divisions as a reliable service provider

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Service Management, Security, Compliance, and other technology divisions

  • Communicate technical progress, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders

  • Participate in stakeholder workshops and requirements gathering sessions as needed

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required:

  • Engineering leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical teams, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability

  • Technical expertise: Deep hands-on experience with on-premises and cloud-based service management and vendor-hosted chat applications, with a minimum of 3 years working with these platforms

  • Agile delivery: Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) with experience translating product priorities into technical execution and sprint delivery

  • Operational excellence: Expertise in service management frameworks (ITIL or similar) with a focus on stability, performance, and continuous improvement

  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues and implement effective solutions

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with Product Owners, Service Managers, and cross-functional teams in a matrixed organisation

  • Customer focus: Commitment to delivering value and meeting the needs of internal customers across the organisation

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience working with on-premises hosted service management applications like Jira or ServiceNow and vendor-hosted applications like Slack

  • Proven track record implementing product upgrades and major features, including managing company-wide stakeholder engagement

  • Experience implementing user experience improvement strategies and delivering desired outcomes

  • Experience managing on-premises and cloud-based services and infrastructure

  • Familiarity with ITIL or other service management frameworks

  • Experience with additional collaboration tools and technologies beyond Jira, Confluence, and Slack

  • Project management skills to efficiently execute and deliver tooling-related projects

  • Knowledge of automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell, Groovy) to streamline repetitive tasks and optimise processes

  • Experience working in agile environments and collaborating with Product Owners or Product Managers

  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments and multi-brand organisations (preferred)
