Position Summary
 
A Welding Intern assists in the specialized maintenance and restoration of critical Aero-derivative gas turbine components. Unlike general repair roles, this position requires extreme precision due to the high-performance alloys used in turbines.

Work Location: 2001 Proenergy Blvd, Sedalia, MO 65301
 
Position Responsibilities
  • Precision Component Repair: Assist in restoring structural integrity to damaged or worn parts such as rotating parts, stationary parts, combustors, etc.
  • Specialized Welding Processes: Gain supervised experience using TIG (GTAW) welding on high-strength alloys like titanium, inconel, and stainless steel.
  • Damage Assessment & Inspection: Learn to identify abnormalities such as cracks, corrosion, or bulges through visual checks and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods like dye penetrant or ultrasonic testing.
  • Surface & Material Preparation: Clean weld joints, remove slag, and perform precision grinding and polishing to meet strict aerodynamic and structural tolerances.
  • Blueprint & Manual Interpretation: Interpret complex engineering drawings, welding symbols, and maintenance manuals to ensure every repair follows FAA or NASA standards.
  • Meticulous Documentation: Document every repair step in maintenance logs for full traceability and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Technical Proficiency: Foundational knowledge of TIG welding and basic metallurgy (how heat affects metal properties).
  • Attention to Detail: An unwavering eye for detail is required, as minor imperfections can jeopardize safety and efficiency.
  • Must be fluent in English, with strong speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
  • Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
 
  • Controlled Environments: Often works in highly controlled "clean rooms" to prevent metal contamination.
  • Mobility: Ability to kneel, stoop, or crouch for extended periods to reach difficult repair spots on aircraft frames.
  • Strength: Capacity to lift and handle delicate but heavy metal components (typically 15–35 lbs frequently).
