The Position:
FanDuel Sports Network is looking for an experienced Transmission and Digital Operations Engineer to add to our roster. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Operations and Transmission, this role will provide day-to-day support of the nationwide FDSN Video Network, game broadcast transmission, associated networking and audio/video hardware, and Digital Operations support at the FDSN Media Operations Center in Atlanta, GA.
This is a full-time, temporary position expected to last up to six months.
The Game Plan:
(What you will do)
Oversee existing hardware and software architecture, working with FDSN Video Network vendors to define software updates and upgrades, resolve issues, escalations, maintenance, and monitor overall performance.
Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
Assist and help create Standard Operation Procedures for all transmission technologies activities, including audio/video and communications check-in, QC process for remotes, and outgoing transmission. This includes linear Broadcast as well as digital stream creation.
Create and develop preventative system maintenance plans, problems resolution check list, and system for tracking transmission logs.
Maintain and update flypack transmission units sent to remote venues.
Identify needed replacement parts for repair work on FDSN gear.
Test and evaluate FDSN transmission equipment and create RMAs for repair work as necessary.
Manage system tools in DOC for Signal Monitoring and As Run logs for QC and troubleshooting.
Work nights, weekends and peak periods as required. Be on call for engineering support.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The Stats:
(What to bring)
5+ years’ experience in broadcast engineering and operations. Sports background a plus.
Expert level knowledge of routing and switching concepts and technologies, including network routing/switching, firewalls, DNS, VoIP, and unified communications.
Must have knowledge of fiber optic technologies and coax transport, video encoding codecs, multicast, and plant routing systems.
Excellent communicator with the ability to interface with highly technical operations teams including Engineering, Operations, Production, and 3rd party vendors.
Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources.
Ability to create and comprehend signal flow documents (CAD) as well as systems level troubleshooting.
Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex matters.
Ability to remain calm and levelheaded under the pressures of “live” television.
Familiarity with SCTE Automation.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, or comparable advanced knowledge attained through work experience and/or intellectual instruction.
Position will require nights and weekend assignments.
