Your technical expertise in React Native, combined with strong leadership and people management skills, will ensure the delivery of high-quality, performant, and scalable mobile applications.

This role enables a hybrid approach to working, allowing you to balance working from home with working in our modern offices. You and your manager will agree on the best working pattern that suits both of you. We’ll kit you out to work remotely, but we know that collaboration is key to our success, and spending quality time together helps us stay aligned with our mission.

What you’ll do:

Technical Leadership & Guidance

  • Facilitate Technical Excellence: Collaborate closely with the team’s Principal Engineer and the Tribe’s Solution Architect to ensure technical quality, solution design, and robust implementation of mobile features. Special attention will be paid to maintaining consistency and quality within our monorepo.

  • Guide and Empower the Team: Provide strong technical guidance and mentorship to the React Native team, enabling them to adopt and uphold best practices in mobile development, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Contribute to Design & Problem Solving: Actively participate in technical design discussions and support the resolution of complex technical challenges, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with architectural standards.

  • Oversee Code Quality: Maintain high standards for code quality and adherence to coding guidelines. Foster a culture of peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to support continuous technical growth.

  • Technical Escalation & Support: Act as a key technical escalation point for the team, helping to resolve blockers by applying your expertise and collaborating effectively with the Principal Engineer and Solution Architect.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Direct Line Management: Serve as the direct line manager for all technical team members, including the Principal Engineer, Mobile Developers, QA Engineers, and QA Automation Engineers, fostering growth and professional development.

  • Performance & Development: Conduct regular 1:1s, set clear goals, provide ongoing feedback, and lead performance reviews to drive individual and team progression.

  • Foster High Performance: Build and nurture a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that emphasizes accountability, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

    Resource & Workload Management:

  • Work closely with the Scrum Master to manage team capacity, facilitate task allocation, and ensure balanced workload distribution to meet delivery goals.

  • Analyze team metrics (e.g., velocity, lead time, defect trends) to identify improvement areas.

  • Develop and implement data-driven action plans to enhance efficiency, quality, and predictability.

Quality Assurance & Automation Oversight

  • Collaborate with QA Leadership: Partner with the QA Lead (or equivalent) to define, implement, and oversee effective testing strategies for native mobile applications, covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

  • Empower Automation Development: Work with the QA Lead to support and guide QA Automation Engineer(s) in building and refining modern automation frameworks that ensure fast and reliable software delivery.

  • Foster a Quality Culture: Champion a strong quality mindset throughout the development lifecycle by promoting proactive testing and QA practices within the team.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Represent your team’s technical capabilities and needs within the Tribe and broader engineering discussions

  • Maintain effective communication with the Head of Engineering, providing regular updates on progress, challenges, and strategic direction

  • Collaborate with Product Owners and UX/UI Designers to translate product requirements into effective technical solutions

  • Partner with the Scrum Master, QA Leadership, Product Manager/Owner, and DevOps to drive and be jointly accountable for the team's performance, delivery, and ongoing improvement within a matrix-managed structure.

What you’ll bring:

  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., Team Lead, Senior Software Engineer leading a sub-team, or Tech Lead), demonstrated ability to manage and mentor technical individuals. Direct line management experience is a strong plus

  • Deep expertise in React Native technology and its ecosystem, including strong knowledge of state management navigation, performance optimization, and integration with native modules

  • Experience with monorepo setups and managing codebases that serve multiple product lines or market teams

Knowledge:

  • Experience with mobile testing methodologies and tools, including unit testing, integration testing, and UI automation frameworks

  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines for mobile applications

  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
