Stake is looking for a Senior Risk and Compliance Manager to join our expanding Legal, Risk and Compliance team, at our CBD office location, within a flexible hybrid working model!

About this role

Joining the Risk team means partnering directly with Product, Engineering and Operations leaders to shape how the business scales. You’ll work on meaningful, high-impact challenges across trading, operational resilience, fraud prevention, customer experience, and regulatory change — with the opportunity to influence decisions from strategy through to execution.

The Senior Risk and Compliance Manager at Stake is a senior member of the Legal, Risk and Compliance (LRC) team, responsible for embedding and scaling Stake’s risk and compliance operating model, ensuring frameworks translate into effective, evidenced practice.

This role goes beyond traditional compliance oversight and plays a critical part in driving customer operations, enhancing trading experiences, and strengthening Stake’s risk framework. You will partner closely with Customer Success, Operations, Product, and Marketing teams to manage risk in real time, respond to incidents and complaints, and drive continuous uplift across the business.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Build and embed enterprise-wide risk and compliance frameworks, including RCSA programs, control libraries, assurance testing, and clear ownership/accountability standards
  • Lead implementation and optimisation of GRC tooling, improving risk data quality, reporting automation, and maintaining a centralised source of truth for risks, controls, incidents, and actions
  • Establish and manage incident, issue, and operational resilience frameworks, including crisis readiness, remediation tracking, contingency planning, and resilience testing
  • Oversee product, trading, and technology risk management by driving formal risk assessment, approval, and governance processes for new products and material business changes
  • Strengthen fraud, scam prevention, AML, and financial crime controls through monitoring, policy uplift, training, and cross-functional risk awareness initiatives
  • Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and audit readiness, including AFSL obligations, regulatory reporting, control alignment, compliance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide practical, commercially focused risk and compliance advisory support across the business, including escalations, complaints handling, customer communications, and operational guidance

A bit about you

  • Strong experience in a trading broker, financial markets, or fintech environment (essential)
  • 8–12+ years’ experience, including roles in fast-paced or scaling environments
  • Experience implementing risk/compliance tooling or GRC systems and scaling frameworks in high-growth environments
  • Experience designing and executing control testing and assurance programs
  • Strong ability to work with incomplete data and improve reporting quality and governance.
  • Experience managing incidents, outages or crisis events and improving operational resilience
  • Deep understanding of financial products, trading platforms, and customer risk in a brokerage context
  • Proven experience in both risk and compliance roles, ideally in fast-paced or high-growth environments
  • Experience handling complaints (IDR/EDR/AFCA) and regulatory interactions
  • Ability to balance regulatory rigor with commercial pragmatism
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working cross-functionally
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels
