The Role

The Management Accountant is responsible for controlling, analysing and reporting on all marketing-related expenditure. The role partners closely with the Marketing team to ensure budgets are managed effectively, spend is accurately reported, and return on investment is measured and understood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the marketing cost budget and forecasts
  • Produce monthly reports on marketing spend vs budget
  • Analyse variances and provide clear explanations to stakeholders
  • Accrue and prepay marketing costs accurately at month-end
  • Ensure marketing expenses are correctly coded and aligned with accounting policies
  • Act as the finance business partner to the Marketing team
  • Support campaign planning with cost analysis and budget guidance
  • Challenge and validate spend decisions with commercial insight
  • Improve financial awareness within the Marketing function
  • Analyse cost per campaign, channel, and activity
  • Support ROI and profitability analysis of marketing initiatives
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis for senior management
  • Maintain strong controls over purchase orders, invoices, and approvals
  • Improve reporting tools and budgeting processes for marketing spend
  • Support audits and internal reviews related to marketing costs

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA or equivalent)
  • Experience in management accounting or cost control
  • Strong Excel skills and financial modelling ability
  • Confident communicator with non-finance stakeholders
  • High attention to detail with a commercial mindset
  • Experience working with marketing or advertising budgets
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Proactive and solution-oriented
  • Comfortable challenging spend constructively
