Lead Counsel - Flutter Entertainment, Sofia (Title and Grade to be confirmed)
Reports to: Head of Legal Counsel
What is the role?
Group Functions and Flutter Entertainment Sofia are an incredibly exciting part of Flutter to work in.
This is a new role in the Group Legal Team and will have responsibility for leading and providing expert legal advice on all matters in Sofia. This will focus on commercial and employment law but will also include corporate governance, compliance, data protection, IP, tax, litigation and other areas. This is a fantastic role where the individual will be key in helping us to continue to scale Sofia and ensure we fulfil all our legal responsibilities in a robust yet agile manner.
The Sofia Leadership Team will be key stakeholders for this role, and therefore the ability to demonstrate credibility, to challenge and to influence without authority at this senior level will be key.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory & Business Partnering
Lead on all legal matters in Flutter Sofia, aligning legal strategies with organisational goals.
Provide pragmatic, commercial, and strategic legal advice to the Sofia Leadership Team.
Support and advise on all employment law matters.
Advise and support on all other legal matters arising in Flutter Sofia, including litigation, IP, governance etc.
Advise on company policies, employee relations, and local labour law requirements, in collaboration with the People team.
Develop strong and trusted relationships with peers on the Global Legal Team and legal teams in the other hub locations, sharing best practice and supporting Flutter group wide collaboration.
Build rapport with, and function as a trusted advisor to, key stakeholders including global stakeholders, the leadership teams, and broader teams in Sofia.
Contract & Document Management
Draft, review, negotiate, and maintain a wide variety of contracts including commercial, service, technology, supplier, consultancy, and employment-related agreements.
Lead or support contract lifecycle management, including renewals, terminations, variations, and enforcement of terms.
Embed GDPR and regulatory compliance into all contractual templates and business practices.
Governance & Compliance
· Anticipate and respond to new legislation, with the ability to digest, summarise and succinctly communicate how new legal and regulatory developments will affect the business.
Stay abreast of regulatory changes and provide proactive guidance to internal stakeholders.
Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of strategic and commercial decisions and the legal implications that arise.
Where relevant, aid in the development and automation of processes to scale efficiencies.
Manage external legal resource to ensure a comprehensive and cost-efficient legal support to all areas of the business.
External Relations
Liaise with regulators, auditors, and legal counsel in Bulgaria and across jurisdictions.
Represent the Flutter Group’s legal interests in external communications, ensuring a consistent and professional presence.
· Act as a true champion and a visible driver of Flutter’s culture.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
We're looking for a qualified lawyer with 8+ year post-qualification experience, and a desire to understand Flutter's business and be part of the team. You should have solid experience, preferably with an international element in a technology driven sector, in areas such as commercial contracts, IP, employment law, data protection and litigation.
A demonstrable track record of successfully advising sizable businesses on a diverse range of complex legal matters in a highly dynamic and fast-paced organisation.
Proven confidence and maturity to effectively deal with complex and challenging situations.
We typically look for people with experience at multinational organisations or highly regarded law firms with experience as an in-house lawyer. We value our people and culture highly, so a suitable candidate must be an outstanding communicator and be great with people.
The candidate will also need to show an ability to translate complex legal regulatory requirements and articulate pros and cons of solutions without losing commercial focus and be capable of challenging senior business stakeholders.
Being a self-starter and having the confidence to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment and to manage a varied workload will be essential.
Extensive experience of internal and external stakeholder management.
Strong foundation in corporate, commercial, and employment law.
Advanced English (verbal and written); additional languages are a plus.
