Head of Marketing Strategy

Role Overview:

This is a pivotal role in the Bet Tribe that is central to Bet Tribe & Marketing team success. This role will lead both Marketing  & Business Planning,  supporting the Marketing & Commercial Director, the Bet Leadership Team and  leading the Functional Leads Group across the Bet Team.

As the owner of Marketing Planning  you will set the Marketing vision, using your obsession with understanding market, customer and consumer insights to drive the thinking and strategy. You will be responsible for understanding and influencing where and how the c£100M Marketing budget is being invested, ensuring it is  focused in the right places and returning a positive value.  You will lead a team of planners that will delvier marketing campaigns and projects effectively, on budget and on time. The role will also be the key contact for the central Marketing Services team, ensuring processes and measurement are co ordinated and led efficiently.

The role will also lead the Functional Leads Group (FLG ) - Key HODs across the Bet Team - to develop, communicate and deliver the wider Bet Team plan. This plan is the activities the Bet Team need to deliver over the next 12 months to successfully complete the Bet TTeamStrategy to 2027 (which has already been defined). This aspect of the role includes setting the Business plans/objectives and key results, leading Quareterly planning sessions and being the go-to person for central teams across UKI. You will need to ensure both the Business and Makreting  plans & insights are aligned, clearly communicated and (for the short & longer term) should include (and celebrate) what has been achieved and delivered. This aspect of the role will also involve working closely with the MD of the Bet Tribe. Key to success will be a positive attitude and a passion to sell a vision to senior partners.

As well as the Commercial and Marketing teams, a  key focus will be to lead, collaborate and influence senior partners in the Trading, Marketing Services, Product, Tech, Finance &  Research, Commercial, teams to develop and deliver plans that will drive the overall Bet Tribe strategy.

The role will be responsible for keeping on top of wider regulation & market research, sharing impacts, encouraging colleagues to drive innovation. It will also be responsible for ensuring the Risk register is embedded and kept up to date and compliant.

This role will require a significant amount of matrix management to influence and lead of teams, peers and senior partners across Marketing, Bet Tribe and UKI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead and embed the Annual Business & Marketing Plans, ensuring they clearly align to  the defined 2027 Strategy
  • Lead and co ordinate a team of HODS to set and communicate objectives and key results for both Marketing and Bet Tribe plans
  • Communicate and share Business & Marketing Plans with the Marketing/Commercial teams and BLT/FLG, ensuring there is visibility of roadmaps/dependencies and timelines for all activity.
  • Work with the Channel teams, Marketing Efficiency and Finance to plan and laydown the Marketing Budget, ensuring there is clear visibility of return on investment and Macro critical metrics that decide success
  • Lead a team that will deliver Marketing Campaigns (from business briefs), co rodinating channel/creative, efficiency and operational teams to implement effectively, on budget and on time
  • Lead and own regulation updates/impacts, sharing and co ordinating implementation with the wider marketing team
  • Handle and lead a team of planners, developing individuals to be their best self.
  • Keep on the pulse of industry and consumer trends that could impact longer and shorter term plans
  • Encourage, inspire and drive Innovation, bringing external thinking into the team

Skills Required:


•A natural communicator that can lead, collaborate  and influence at all levels
•Has 10+ years  experience of working across different Marketing teams at a senior level
•Experience of leading senior  team members to build and deliver Annual Plans
•Experience of leading and planning mutli million pound Marketing budgets, demonstrating an understanding of measurement techniques and return on investment
•Thinks strategically, and has significant experience of using consumer insights, data and business strategy to build outstanding Plans
•Customer and consumer focussed, with a curiosity to always learn and share insights from external and internal sources
•A story teller who can encourage and excite colleagues at scale and with the vision and plans
•Analytically driven, with high levels of passion, dedication and enthusiasm to drive teams to achieve objectives and targets
•Has  track record of directing a team of people to work towards a common goal, providing challenge and encouraging each other along the way, and helping them to reach their full potential.
