About the role
We are looking for a Head of Information Security to join our Technology team in Sydney.
Security is foundational to everything we build at Stake. As our Head of Information Security, you'll shape the strategy, systems and culture that protect our customers, our people and our platform as we continue to scale. Reporting to the CTO/COO, you'll lead both our Information Security and IT functions, giving you end-to-end ownership of the technology foundations that keep the business secure, resilient and operating at its best.
This is a highly influential leadership role that sits at the intersection of engineering, risk and business operations. You'll work closely with leaders across Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance and Operations to embed security into the way we design, build and operate. Your role is to help the business move quickly with confidence, making thoughtful decisions that balance customer experience, operational resilience and regulatory obligations.
You'll lead experienced teams, shape long-term strategy and build an environment where security is everyone's responsibility. Along the way, you'll help Stake strengthen customer trust while creating technology experiences that enable every team to do their best work. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.
What success looks like
- Build and execute a security and IT strategy that scales with Stake's growth and strengthens customer and employee confidence.
- Develop high-performing Information Security and IT teams with clear ownership, strong leadership capability and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Embed security into every stage of the product and engineering lifecycle, enabling teams to ship quickly while raising the bar on resilience and quality.
- Create a seamless, reliable internal technology experience that helps every team operate efficiently and securely.
- Strengthen Stake's incident response, business continuity and operational resilience capabilities, ensuring we're prepared to respond confidently as we grow.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Risk, Compliance and Operations to make pragmatic decisions that balance security, customer experience and commercial outcomes.
- Evolve the governance, assurance and control frameworks that support Stake's regulatory obligations while remaining practical and scalable.
- Foster a company-wide culture where ownership, security awareness and operational excellence are embedded into everyday decision-making.
You'll thrive here ifβ¦
- You've led Information Security in a high-growth technology, fintech or other regulated environment and know how to scale security alongside the business.
- You've successfully led both Security and IT functions, combining strategic thinking with the ability to dive deep when it matters.
- You have experience designing, implementing and continuously improving security controls aligned to Essential Eight, ISO 27001 or equivalent frameworks.
- You're equally comfortable discussing Board-level technology risk as you are reviewing cloud architecture, identity management or application security decisions.
- You bring sound judgement, make thoughtful trade-offs and know how to protect the business without slowing momentum.
- You build trusted relationships across technical and business teams, creating alignment and influencing confidently at every level of the organisation.
Bonus if you've ever
- Led Security and IT within an investing, fintech, banking or payments business.
- Owned security certifications, regulatory audits or enterprise technology risk programs.
- Built and operated security functions across multiple global regions.
- Led significant security incidents, resilience programs or business continuity initiatives.
- Helped scale technology organisations through periods of rapid customer and employee growth.
