About this role

A pivotal leadership role within Stake that runs our core operations of the Trading platform, this role leads the team responsible for the systems that power funding and money movement—including bank connections/integrations, deposits and withdrawals, and the operational foundations that keep these flows secure, correct, and highly available. You’ll be accountable for both delivery and day-two excellence: predictable execution, clear ownership, incident leadership, and continuous improvement across reliability, observability, and risk controls.

You will be one of Technology’s key leadership team members, working directly with the CTO and other Engineering Managers and cross-functional senior leadership to build a seamless customer experience for ambitious investors. You will work with a high-performing team of Engineers across Trading, Super and Save product pillars where you’ll gain exposure to Stake’s full suite of products.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers: hiring, onboarding, feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Own outcomes across banking flows (e.g., deposits/withdrawals, bank linking and funding lifecycle) with clear prioritisation across competing demands.
  • Drive operational excellence: on-call health, incident response, post-incident follow-through, runbooks, and measurable reliability improvements.
  • Provide EM-level technical leadership: architecture and design reviews, migrations, integration strategy, and pragmatic risk tradeoffs.
  • Manage external dependencies (vendors/partners) with strong coordination, clear SLAs/expectations, and robust failure handling.
  • Partner with Risk/Compliance and Operations to embed controls without slowing delivery—balancing customer experience, risk, and time-to-ship.

A bit about you

  • Experience leading a team delivering production systems where reliability and correctness matter.
  • Strong people leadership: coaching, difficult feedback, performance management, and building inclusive teams with a great culture.
  • Proven execution: prioritisation across multiple workstreams, managing dependencies, and delivering through ambiguity.
  • Strong technical judgement across distributed systems and integrations (you don’t need to code every day, but you can lead technical direction).
  • Comfort operating in risk-sensitive or regulated-adjacent environments with audits, controls, and high expectations.
  • Fintech/banking/payments experience; money movement; or vendor integration experience.

At Stake, we’re more interested in your attitude than your resume. If you believe this is a role you want to jump into, please apply and let us know why in your cover letter!
