What’s the position?

As the Director - Business Risk & Controls, you will report to the VP – Finance and will lead the development and oversight of internal control systems across critical business functions—trading, customer operations, platform integrity, product operations, and overall business governance. You will play a key role in protecting the integrity of operations, ensuring control effectiveness and regulatory readiness and supporting risk-aware, scalable growth across the businessin a high-growth, high-stakes digital gaming environment.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Governance Framework Oversight: Establish and enhance business entity-level controls, including policies and frameworks that promote strong governance, operational integrity, and accountability.
  • Tone at the Top & Culture of Control: Collaborate with senior leadership to reinforce a control-conscious culture through structured communications, leadership behaviors, and cross-departmental alignment.
  • Entity Risk Assessment: Conduct periodic risk assessments at the entity level, including cross-functional risks impacting trading, operations, and product integrity. Prioritize areas for controls enhancement based on evolving business risks.
  • Delegation of Authority / Business Segregation of Duties: Define and monitor controls around critical decision rights, approval workflows, and operational authority across teams.
  • Policy & Standards Development: Own and maintain business-wide standards and operating principles for internal controls and operational risk governance, outside of financial reporting.
  • Internal Control Development: Design and maintain comprehensive control frameworks across workflows—including trading operations, platform management, responsible gaming, and customer support.
  • Process Risk Management: Evaluate process-level risks and build preventative and detective controls that mitigate exposure in critical business activities.
  • Control Automation & Scaling: Partner with product, engineering, and analytics to automate high-impact controls and develop real-time alerting and monitoring for key workflows.
  • Control Monitoring & Testing: Build programs to continuously test control design and effectiveness. Create dashboards and KPIs/KRIs to track risk exposure and mitigation.
  • Incident Response Support: Lead root cause analyses and control remediation following control failures, escalations, or regulatory investigations (in partnership with Legal/Compliance).
  • Advisory Support for Growth: Act as a strategic partner to business leaders during expansions, product launches, or organizational changes—ensuring appropriate controls scale with growth.

Job requirements

What are we looking for?

  • Experience: 8–10+ years in internal controls, operational risk, or governance roles within iGaming, trading, or platform-based digital businesses. Experience in sportsbook or gaming environments is a strong plus.
  • Entity Governance Know-How: Experience designing and overseeing entity-level risk and control programs, preferably in high-growth, regulated environments.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to resolve complex issues efficiently.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Team Collaboration: A proactive team player with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaborative relationships across departments.
  • Detail Orientation: Meticulous attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with Excel skills.
  • Flexibility: Ability to manage across time zones and occasionally travel for strategic in-person working sessions.
