Backend Developer – Shape Games, Copenhagen
Contract type: Full time Location: On-site (Copenhagen Office)
Shape Games is looking for a Backend Developer in the early stages of their career to join our team and help build the backbone of our award-winning iGaming platform. You’ll work with technologies like Kotlin, Ktor, AWS, Postgres, Redis, and Cloudfront to craft robust, scalable, and secure systems powering mobile and web apps used worldwide.
About the role
As a Backend Developer, you’ll be responsible for implementing and maintaining the server-side logic of our digital products. Your focus will be on building efficient APIs, ensuring performance, and collaborating closely with frontend teams and product owners to deliver high-quality user experiences. This is a great opportunity for someone eager to learn, grow, and become a key contributor.
Tech Stack
· Languages: Kotlin (or Java)
· Frameworks: Ktor
· Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis
· Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, RDS, Cloudfront, etc.)
Key responsibilities
· Build and maintain backend services using Kotlin and Ktor
· Develop and integrate APIs for seamless communication across systems
· Collaborate with frontend developers and DevOps to ensure end-to-end feature delivery
· Ensure code quality through best practices, reviews, and test coverage
· Monitor backend reliability and debug issues in production
· Stay curious and learn about backend development trends and AWS innovations
What we’re looking for
· 1–2 years of experience in backend development or strong coding skills
· Familiarity with Kotlin or Java
· Basic understanding of AWS or willingness to learn cloud technologies
· Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
· Interest in performance optimization and scalable system design
· Excellent communication skills and team collaboration mindset
