Overview of the role:
Join our dynamic Toronto QA team as an Automation Test Developer (Hybrid QA) with a clear path to automation specialist. We are looking for someone who is technically minded who wants to grow from manual testing into full automation while making a real impact on player experience.
We're looking for a detail-oriented professional with some Poker knowledge to help prevent defects using risk-based testing across platforms. You'll start with manual testing while executing automated test suites, working closely with designers, developers, and product teams and developing yourself towards automation.
This role follows a hybrid approach to working, allowing you to combine working from home with working in our modern offices. These discussions are between you and your manager to find the best pattern for you both, while recognising that quality time together is essential for keeping us mission-aligned.
What you’ll do:
Analysis and Planning
Analyse project documentation to ensure thorough understanding of business and technical requirements, identifying automation opportunities from the outset.
Collaborate with stakeholders on production of test designs with constant review and feedback, ensuring both manual and automated testing approaches are considered.
Provide estimates of testing effort for both manual execution and automation development (with team consultation) based on content, risk, and technical complexity.
Collaborate with product managers and developers to derive logical sets of prioritised test suites, balancing immediate manual testing needs with long-term automation goals.
Identify test conditions, then design and author relevant test scenarios and test cases for both manual execution and automated implementation.
Ensure all test scenarios are written with automation-first mindset, using structured formats compatible with automation frameworks.
Manual & Automated Testing
Configure and maintain test environments for both manual and automated test execution.
Execute manual test cases when required, while simultaneously building automated equivalents.
Execute, maintain and eventually Develop automated test scripts using appropriate frameworks and tools.
Implement continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated test execution.
Verify bugs through both manual testing and automated regression suites.
Use automation tools and AI-based platforms to optimize and expedite the QA process.
Gradually transition manual test cases to automated scripts, reducing manual testing overhead over time.
Core
Champion the transition from manual to automated testing practices.
Practice effective procedures and maintain correct mindset for both manual and automated testing.
Drive continuous delivery processes through automation implementation.
Develop and maintain healthy collaborative relationships across teams.
What you’ll bring:
Experience with popular Poker variants such as Omaha & Texas Hold'em.
Programming experience in at least one modern language.
Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks.
Knowledge of Software Testing principles and Software Development lifecycle.
Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD concepts.
Agile/Scrum development model awareness.
Understanding of API testing and tools.
Database testing and SQL knowledge.
Knowledge of JIRA and test management tools
Experience with testing iOS and Android mobile web and applications, including mobile automation tools.
Performance and load testing experience.
Knowledge of the online poker environment and industry, including the PokerStars application.
Experience with visual testing and AI-powered testing tools.
Understanding of test data management and test environment automation.
